why do we eat white meat on good friday

why do we eat white meat on good friday

Good Friday is a day of fast and abstinence. The fast means we should eat only two half meals and one normal meal - no snacks. Abstinence is from all meat except fish. In modern day Australia I think seafood is a treat, it s often quite expensive and it s something I quite enjoy. For these reasons in our family we don t do fish on Good Friday. Good Friday and Ash Wednesday have the identical fasting rules. I don t think theologians today place any significance on fish apart from it being a tradition. Fasting and abstaining are an exercise in discipline and are meant to help us focus on the solemn meaning of the day. why do we have homework on weekends

why do we have homework on weekends

By Ash99, East Hampton, NY Every school in the world at one point has given their students homework on weekends and holiday breaks. Schools shouldn t be allowed to give homework on weekends nor holiday breaks becuase it is not fair. Every year students must go to school 10 out of the 12 months in a year. Every week us students have school 5 out of the 7 days. When we arrive home tired. We wake up at 6 am to get ready for school at 7:40am and dont get out until 2:26pm! That isn t including students like me who play sports. Practice lasts from 3pm to 5pm. If there is a game that day, you normally dont get home until 7pm. If you have an away game, sometimes you dont get home until 10pm! We just want to relax after a hard day of learning, but the work is not over just becuase school is out

why do we put salt on icy roads

why do we put salt on icy roads

[ Editor's note: In his answer to this question, the late John Margrave argued that salt dissolves in water as ions of sodium and chlorine, and these ions hydrate, or join to, the water molecules. This process gives off heat, which thaws ice. A number of readers alerted us to problems with this explanation. Chemical engineering professor Arthur Pelton of the University of Montreal provided a representative correction. His explanation follows, and Margrave's original answer appears below that. Although the hydration process gives off heat, this is more than compensated for by the heat absorbed during the initial decomposition of the salt into ions. In other words, the total process of dissolution--decomposition into ions plus hydration--absorbs heat. This can easily be demonstrated: pour

why do some people bruise easier than others

why do some people bruise easier than others

Some conditions can make it harder for your blood to clot. One you've probably heard of is hemophilia. These are rare, but they can be life-threatening if you don't treat them. Blood disorders usually cause symptoms other than bruising. If you're having nosebleeds for no reason, if your gums bleed a lot after you brush or floss, or if small cuts or scrapes seem to bleed heavily, call your doctor. An extra-hard workout can sometimes cause bruises. That's because you're pushing your muscles with so much effort that it leads to tiny tears in your blood vessels. A Zumba class or 30 minutes on the treadmill aren't likely to cause a problem, but weightlifting or running a marathon can do it. If you notice marks on your arms or legs after an intense workout, try the "RICE" method: We don't mean

Here are nine people who might make you believe in such things, and one who should have been a direct recipient of Tut's wrath but got off with nary a scratch. 1. GEORGE HERBERT, 5TH EARL OF CARNARVON The man who financed the excavation of King Tut's tomb was the first to succumb to the supposed curse. Lord Carnarvon accidentally tore open a mosquito bite while shaving and ended up dying of blood poisoning shortly thereafter. This occurred a few months after the tomb was opened and a
