why might a playwright employ dramatic irony

why might a playwright employ dramatic irony

Well, the whole play is structured around what, to its original audience, would be one colossal case of dramatic irony. Sophocles' audience would have alrea dy known the Oedipus story, and the very name "Oedipus" would be synonymous with sleeping with his mother and killing his father. That means that, even before the play began, the audience would know the ending. This terrific dramatic irony would mean that, every time Oedipus talks about finding the cause of the Theban plague, the audience would know exactly what the cause was: Oedipus himself. Within the construction of the play, there are ironies all over the place. As Oedipus killed his father on the crossroads, he felt confident that he'd left his father behind him in Corinth. Oedipus solves the riddle

why does my cat bring me things

why does my cat bring me things

I have an indoor-outdoor cat (neutered male) that is four years old. Sometimes in the morning I will find a dying or dead mouse or bird on the front porch. Gross! Why does he bring me presents like this? Thanks в A. Z. Dear A. Z. , As gross as it may be, this is your catвs way of showing his affection в that or trying to teach you something. Our domestic cats once had to live off their hunting skills and even though they might not need to hunt to eat today, some still enjoy the activity. In the wild, a mother cat would hunt small animals or birds, and bring them back to her kittens for food. In time, she would bring back dinner while it was still alive in order to teach her kittens how to hunt for themselves. Your cat is expressing a nurturing nature by gifting you with your dinner, as

why was the vietnam war the first television war

"hand held remote control. " Prior to the "remote" you had to get off the couch and walk to the TV to turn it on, change the channels, or turn it up or down or off. During this same time frame War films and Westerns were the main programs. Cop shows were rare; Dragnet, Car 54, and later Adam 12 were just a few of them. The main programs were War (Rin Tin Tin, Combat, PT109, In Harms Way, They Were Expendable, Pork Chop Hill, From Here to Eternity, McHales Navy, etc. ) and Westerns (Wyatt Earp, The Texas Rangers, Wanted Dead or Alive, Paladin, Johnny Yuma, Roy Rogers, Sky King, etc). why is a glove box called a glove box

why is a glove box called a glove box

I m no etymologist, but I ve always been intrigued by the origin of words в especially as it applies to cars. There are, after all, a number of terms that we use every day in our industry that make no sense at all. That is, of course, until you understand where they come from. To satisfy my own curiosity, as well as to give everyone some fun facts to share with customers,ВI ll be doing a little bit of research on the origin of industry terms and posting my findings here from time to time. To start off, let s take a look at where the terms glove box and jockey box come from. Of course, I m referring to that large lockable compartment automakers build into the dashboard. But the terms used to describe it are odd. After all, neither gloves nor jockeys have anything to do with driving a car.

why does temperature change during the seasons

why does temperature change during the seasons

As the Earth orbits the sun every 365 days, the axis is always pointing in the same direction into space with the North Pole toward Polaris, the North Star. Around June 21st, the northern hemisphere is angled towards the sun, and receives the most direct radiation and the most energy. This is the start of summer in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern hemisphere. Six months later, in December, the Earth has made half a revolution around the sun. The northern hemisphere is now angled away from the sun and receives less energy than the southern hemisphere; this is the beginning of winter in the northern hemisphere, and summer in the southern hemisphere. From north to south the results of the distribution of solar energy can be seen in the changing vegetation (see this ),

why do you need regular sources of water soluble vitamins

why do you need regular sources of water soluble vitamins

There are 13 essential vitamins our bodies need. These can be divided into two categories: fat-soluble and water-soluble. WhatБs the difference? The difference comes down to how they act within the body. HereБs what you need to know: Vitamins A, D, E, and K Fat-soluble vitamins are soluble in fats. They are absorbed by fat globules that travel through the small intestines and into the general blood circulation within the body. Unlike water-soluble vitamins, fat-soluble vitamins are stored in the body when they are not in use. Typically, they are stored in the liver and fat tissues. Although only small amounts of these vitamins are necessary to maintain good health, Vitamin D deficiency has been reported as a growing public health concern. why do you need an audio interface

why do you need an audio interface

Something we hear at MusicianБs Friend all the time is, БMy computer already has a sound card; can I use that to record? Б While the sound card in your computer, tablet, or smartphone is an audio interface, if itБs the standard type installed in most computers and mobile devices, itБs not up to the the job. Consumer-level sound and limited connectivity severely limit its abilities for recording or mixing music. Most standard computer sound cards only have a consumer-grade stereo line level input for connecting audio players and similar gear. For outputs it will likely have a stereo headphone and/or speaker output. And thatБs it. Even if your recording plans are limitedБjust recording your voice and electric guitar for exampleБthe sound card lacks the appropriate connections. In order to
