If you notice a foul sewer smell in your basement, here are the five possible causes in order of probability: You have a water trap under a floor drain, laundry tub or wash basin that has dried out from lack of use. Water in any trap under unused drains will eventually evaporate. That would allow sewer gas to come up through the drain into the room. Solve that problem just by dumping a pitcherful of water into the drain to restore the trap water. If you follow that up by pouring a couple of tablespoons of cooking oil into the drain, a floating seal of oil will keep the water from evaporating so fast next time. Check for a cleanout plug inside the floor drain. Remove the grate that covers the opening and make sure there s a plug inside the drain bowl. If the plug is missing, there s a
Photo: Shutterstock. com Toe and/or foot numbness is a common problem among cyclists that often involves more than one root cause. In my experience with patients, I have found that it stems from either one or a combination of these three sources: 1. Poor Fitting Shoe Our feet swell during cycling, due to increased blood supply demanded by muscle activity. Most often, athletes with toe numbness are wearing shoes that are too small, or are tightened too snugly at the beginning of the ride, which restricts blood supply to the nerves, thus causing the numbness. With the advances in cycling shoe construction and closure systems, it is easier than ever to find a shoe with multiple points of adjustment that accommodate variances in anatomy. Why does God allow sickness? Sickness can be a challenging topic. We think that a good and loving God would not allow sickness, and yet we know that sickness exists. We can begin to believe that sickness is the result of a person's sin. While that may sometimes be the case, sickness is often just a result of living in a fallen world. So why does God allow this? John 9 describes Jesus healing a man who had been blind since birth. Jesus' disciples asked if the man's blindness was caused by his sin or that of his parents. Jesus replied, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned в but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life" (John 9:3 NIV). In this case, God allowed sickness in order that His glory might be shown. If we trust in the sovereignty of God and the

However at home last night I consumed a single casual pint of lager and noticed that my kidneys immediately started hurting. The pain lasted through the night and I am still aware of it this morning. I am particularly concerned given that a) the aching started
