why do you need a passport to travel

When you are making your list of what to pack for, London and, travel documents are more important than travel shoes. Any item of clothing you forget at home can probably be replaced quite easily in Europe, but you won't even get on the plane without a passport. And if somebody tells you you'll have to get a visa to swing by, they might not be talking about expanded credit. The legal documents you need to travel in Europe depend on exactly where you want to go and how long you want to stay. Western Europe has long been a favorite destination for U. S. travelers, but Eastern European countries are gaining fans as cheaper, cooler, more unusual stops on the road-less-traveled-by. Consider a passport the lowest common denominator for travel to any of them. Likely as not, some, if not all of the countries, on your European itinerary are members of the Schengen Borders Agreement. Twenty-six nations are members, including countries in Western Europe, Eastern Europe and even Iceland. The agreement permits citizens from certain countries, including the U. S. , to visit any or all of these Schengen area countries for up to 90 days without a visa. That means that a passport alone can take you not just to
and Belgium, but also to nations like Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania and, for pleasure or for business.

Be sure that you have at least six months' validity left on your passport before you enter the Schengen countries. When you enter any of the Schengen area countries, even if you are just in transit to a non-Schengen destination, your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the date you are set to depart. Those Schengen countries you enter at the end of your trip may also require three months' passport validity, so it's a good idea to enter the area with extra passport validity. Cinderella had to leave the ball by midnight, and you'll be on a precise time frame too when visiting Schengen countries. Three months and out is the rule. If you spend three months in the Schengen area during any six-month period, you have to take a three-month break, during which you cannot go to the Schengen area before you can get another three-month visa-free visit started. If this won't work for you, or if you wish to visit countries in the Schengen area longer than three months, you'll be better off applying for a visa.

Apply at the embassy of the country where you plan to spend the majority of your time. Your baby may not be as long as your carry-on bag, but the little tyke will require a passport to visit Europe. And, just as important, you'll have to have a passport to get the baby (and older children as well) back into the U. S. Don't think about saving money by getting passport cards for the kids. Yes, they cost less than half the amount you'll shell out for a passport book, but they are not valid for travel to Europe. And passports for kids under 16 years old are valid only for five years, not 10 years, like adult passports. /* This style seem important, DO NOT REMOVE */ #adReplacement *,. adsbygoogle,. inline-ad * { display: block! important; } #adReplacement script,. adsbygoogle script,. inline-ad script { display: none! important; } Many forms of photo identification will be accepted by The Bahamian government, including enhanced drivers licenses, passport books, and passport cards.
