why does hair grow on my shaft

I am 18 years old and too scared to have a sexual relationship. One reason is that I have got thick, long coarse hair on my penis. Not only do I have a lot of the 'white bumps', which you have stated, occur in many men, but I have got hair growing out of these 'bumps'. This hair isn't too long but definitely noticeable. The thick hair starts at the base of the penis and (without exaggeration) goes almost all the way up my penis. I have an average, but it looks so much smaller thanks to the pubic hair on the penis. It is affecting me more than you think and I'm becoming quite about it. I am always turning girls down because I'm afraid how they will react, and my friends keep accusing me of being gay. I can't tell them why I turn the girls down because it's too embarrassing. I don't know whether the hair growth is because of hormones or what, but I also suffer badly from painful acne on the shoulders and upper back.

I know permanent hair removal is impossible, and this is going to be something I'm going to have to live with, but surely there is something I can use, even if I have to use it as an ongoing thing. Can the hair removal cream that women use on their bikini line be used on my penis or not? I hear and understand how desperate you feel at the current time about this particularly personal problem. I'm going to give you some more reassurance. The problem you describe is not a significant physical problem associated with any disorder or disease. It will not affect your sexual performance nor your sexual attraction to potential partners in the future, although I do accept you want something done about it.

The problem is really a cosmetic one. Although particularly individual and ghastly to you, this is similar to the problem that women face when they have unwanted facial hair or even coarse body hair, for example around the nipples or on the shoulders or back. I am aware that the coarse hair you have on the shaft of your penis is making you feel self-critical and embarrassed, but a depilatory cream is unlikely to any real effect as these only work on soft downy hair of the type seen on a woman's upper lip or lower leg. The type of coarse hair you are talking about will have deep roots like eyebrow hair and will require other treatment. One such simple remedy would be to pluck the hair, and although this would be painful, you could ask your GP for some EMLA cream, which is a local anaesthetic cream, which would make the job less tedious.

The alternative would be to see your GP for further advice. Last updated 26. 06. 2014
