why does my pc keep freezing windows 7

Hi Louism,
Try to boot in safe mode and verify if the computer works fine without freezing. To boot to the desktop in safe mode keep tapping F8 key during restart. Once you see the option to boot in safe mode select it and press enter. If the computer works fine in safe mode, y ou try to put the computer in clean boot state to make sure that third party applications are not causing this issue with computer performance. To perform a clean boot, follow the steps below: 1. Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. 2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup. 3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box. 4.

Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All. 5. Click OK. 6. When you are prompted, click Restart. 7. After the computer starts, check if it works normally. If your issue is resolved after performing Clean Boot, then follow the steps mentioned in the following KB article to narrow down the exact source: http://support. microsoft. com/kb/929135 Also, see the section on how return your computer to a Normal startup mode by following the steps under БReset the computer to start as usualБ. If the issue persists, you may open event viewer and check if there are any other significant error messages/codes and post it back.

What information appears in event logs (Event Viewer)? http://windows. microsoft. com/en-US/windows7/What-information-appears-in-event-logs-Event-Viewer Also access the link below and follow the steps and try to update the drivers on your computer. БUpdate a driver for hardware that isn't working properlyБ. If the issue persists after updating the drivers, Who is the computer manufacturer and the model number? Did you make any changes to the computer recently? Did the computer come pre installed with Windows 7 or did you install it separately? Any security software installed on the computer? Hope this helps. Let us know the results. Thanks and Regards, Srinivas R Microsoft Support. Visit our and let us know what you think.

I built my computer a few months ago and now it randomly freezes. Sometimes for 5-10 minutes but other times a hard restart is required. I have disabled some programs from running when the computer boots up such as Skype and that fixed it for about a week but now it is doing it again. I have done full scans with Microsoft Security Essentials and updated all my drivers and software. I do not believe it is a graphics card issue because the sound kind of skips. For example if I was watching YouTube it would be like "Hello My Name iiiiiiiiiiissssssssssssssssssssss AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAlllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeecccccc". I also have a very tight budget and I need a solution to this problem fast so I can do schoolwork.
