why does hair break off around face

To prevent future hair breakage, consider the following must-do hair care tips:
Wash and condition your hair daily, but gently. Use a swimmerБs shampoo and conditioner set after going to a pool. Try to let your hair air dry when possible. Check out products for air-dried hair without sacrificing style. Make sure all weaves and extensions are light so they donБt pull on the scalp.

Consider a new hair style that requires less damaging maintenance on your part. Eat a balanced diet to make sure your hair gets all the nutrients it needs. Avoid wearing tight hats for fashion Б save these for sun protection only. I m a 24 year old female and have always had thin fine oily hair that is prone to split ends.

Within the last year, however the hair around my face has broken off and is about 2 inches in length from the scalp (I now have bangs! ). The hair has also broken off to about the same length at the nape of the neck (the bottom layer, only visible when hair pulled up). Because of this breakage I ve had to cut my hair to above shoulder length (was shoulder length).

My hair care has not changed, i still shampoo, condition, air dry, then brush. I don t wear my hair up unless it s with a clip, so as not to increase the breakage anywhere else. Many times I also notice my hair feeling very dry or brittle, which is extremely different from my typical oily hair.

What are some possible explanations for this extreme hair breakage? My mom does have alopecia, but she had the balding circular areas when she first noticed. Both sides of my family suffer from many different autoimmune disorders, could this be a possible cause? I have tested negative for the common autoimmune disorders as well as having a normal thyroid.
