Events are great, people are fun, plenty is learned, but what about those moments when someone forgets what it is like to go to a leadership conference (whether or not for DECA)? all of the time is not easy or actually possible. So here are a few points to remember when you are trying to decide whether or not to attend a leadership event:
1. You can recruit members! When you are out and about at leadership events, those around you share similar feelings about your core values and goals. Use this time let others know what you and your organization stand for; you might gain a great new member that will incite excitement in you the next time you are debating on attending an event! 2. One word: Network. What is any event without the opportunity to network? This is the perfect time to build relationships. Remember, you probably already have a lot in common with the other people present. Choose one person that you want to get to know at the event and then get to know them by the end! There is no better way to improve your mood than by making a new friend. Donвt forget your business card so you can keep in contact with them! 3. Remember your importance and what you stand for. Sometimes you are just not in a good mood. Maybe things have been weird at home or personal relationships are starting to get the best of you.
Fortunately, these events are created to be motivational and inspirational. Apply the lessons that you learn from there into your personal life! Leadership exists everywhere, not just when you are given a title or a new position. Use this time to really connect with what you feel strongly about. 4. Learn new lessons and apply them to life. The conferences are a growing and learning opportunity. Even if you have been to a similar event already, going to another one will not hurt. Chances are, you may not remember all of the information. Part of the reason the organization is hosting the conference is for you to take the knowledge home and apply it to your work, education, or extracurricular life. Attend the next leadership event with a different goal in mind. When you change your mentality or focus, you will see the same lessons in a new light. Life is about perspective. 5. Youвll be gaining tons of credibility. There will always be that one person at the event sharing all of their cool lessons. They have a lot of experience and if you can remember one thing from their biography, their words of wisdom will give you credibility when you quote them. Other people will appreciate your newfound insight and in turn, give you credit as well! 6. You know youвre going to have fun!
