Visionaries, wave makers, movers and shakers. These words are not only a description of the group of women who hold a place of dominance within the divine nines black Greek organizations, but they are simply the words that come to mind when seeing a woman of. Delta Sigma Theta is a private, nonprofit Greek organization devoted to promoting assistance and support throughout local communities. After being founded on Jan. 13, 1913, by 22 collegiate women at, these women have started a movement, including a movement that started at ISU on Feb. 13, 1971. Living by their principles of sisterhood, scholarship and service, the members on this campus use their platform to make a difference in the ISU community.
Junior Tiana Little explained why she chose to be a woman of Delta and how the sorority has made a difference in her life overall. БWhat drew me to the organization is how it was founded by strong black women who wanted to move towards social activism and greater public service, rather than continue to focus on social activities,Б Little said. Little is also thankful for the opportunities the sorority has offered her. БEver since IБve been a member, not only have I grown as a person, but Delta Sigma Theta has opened doors and helped me network with people I would have never been able to speak to in the past,Б Little said. LittleБs story is a prime example of how being a part of a Greek organization can help students feel confident and meet new people through networking.
БOur organization isnБt about showing off and status, weБre about breaking barriers, contributing to the community through service, and making sure our members can learn and grow through every experience,Б Little said. Sorority Incorporated is an equal opportunity organization. Its primary focus is on the overall development of the black community, but women of all racial backgrounds are welcome to join. Applicants are required to have and maintain a 2. 75 GPA for potential membership. Women who understand the founding principles of the organization and are willing to uphold and support those principles, are ideal candidates for membership.
The women of Delta Sigma Theta have and continue to play a great role in the ISU community and are always open to meeting new people.
Any female student currently enrolled at a college or university where there is an active chapter on campus or in the city is eligible to apply for membership, provided that: the student is in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2. 75 on a 4. 0 scale or 1. 75 on a 3. 0 scale; or equivalent, except where the minimum grade point average required by the college or university is greater, then the minimum grade point average must be used for eligibility; and the student is not a member of any society holding membership in the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. or the Panhellenic Conference, Inc.
Any applicant for membership must receive a majority of the votes of members of the chapter to which she has applied. However, the vote of the chapter is subject to final approval of the Regional Director. the female graduated with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2. 75 on a 4. 0 scale or 1. 75 on a 3. 0 scale; the female is not a member of, nor has been expelled from, any society holding membership in the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. or the Panhellenic Conference, Inc.
