why do we bow our heads during prayer

IDK about clasping hands, as I don't do it. I do know that we bow our head in respect for the one we are praying to, God. It is much the same in a legal case. When you approach a judge you address him differently than say a sales clerk. When you talk to the judge, your speech is more respectful as is your body language. When you talk casually to someone your mannerism change completely. When we do these things for God, we are showing regard for his position of authority.

We are also showing that we are in subjection to our father. The clasping of hands may be to show love and encouragement for your brothers in the congregation. Hebrews 10:24-25: "24 And let us consider one another so as to incite to love and fine works, 25 not forsaking our meeting together, as some have the custom, but encouraging one another, and all the more so as you see the day drawing near".
The closest friends in my life are a wonderful and odd assortment of writers, theologians, pastors, teachers, musicians, medical people, and business people.

They most often compliment me for my direct honesty, dry sense of humor, intuition, tender-hardheartedness, and intelligence. Of course they could be wrong. My adult offspring just think I'm weird, but they assure me that its "weird in a good way. " I think my parents, siblings, and others related to me by genetics and marriage agree. You can ask them. I'm a learning junkie so I tend to study things until I have a sense of mastery.

Sometimes I master something pretty well and then drop it and turn to something else. Other times I stick with it for no other reason than I enjoy it and it becomes "a hobby. " Those hobbies include writing and research, history, teaching, travel, music, hiking, birding and photography and anything to do with nature, genealogy, and science--especially psychology, archaeology, and physics (not necessarily in that order).

I'm good at art though I don't really like doing it very much, I used to sing and write music, and can play the piano by ear badly, I love teaching especially in Israel and Palestine, and I'm a published author writing stuff that will never get published. I am an ordained Methodist minister (1986) and certified chaplain (2010). Do the math; I'm aging. I've lived in Mississippi and California, but have been back in my hometown of Atlanta, Georgia since Christmas 2009.
