One of the many traditions at my school is for the student body and faculty to wear pajamas on Dr. Seuss Birthday, March 2. Once we re comfy, here is how we celebrate the day:
1. Our city librarian comes in and reads a story to the students. Each student receives an application for a library card. 2. Share time : Students bring in their favorite book, share what the title is and explain why they find that book interesting. 3. Dr. Seuss birthday centers : First we read by Dr. Seuss, then I split the class in half, having each group spend a half hour at one of two stations, then switching. At station 1, half the class makes green eggs in a skillet! (Parents supply the orange juice and donut holes. ) At station 2, half the class makes ____ I am! books. Here is the text to the book. (Students write the word goat on the blank line and draw a picture of a goat. I can eat them in a _________. (Students write the word house on the blank line and draw a picture of a house at the top of the paper. I can eat them with a ________. (Students write the word mouse on the blank line and draw a picture of a mouse. Did you like green eggs and ham? _____, I ______! (Students write yes or no on the blank line) (On the second blank line, students write did or didn t ). 4. We create a cover for the book 5. Whole group activity : We make hats! Materials needed Step 1 : Place the 12 by 18 piece of white construction vertically on the desk.


Step 2 : Glue each piece of red construction paper horizontally to the white construction paper 2 inches apart from each other. Step 3 : Glue the 3 by 18 piece of white construction paper to the bottom of the other piece of white construction paper to make the brim. Step 4 : Staple vertically to the pocket chart strips and fit it around the student s head. Staple the ends so it fits the student s head. 6. Green Eggs Class Graph : Ask the students if they liked the green eggs or not. Tally the answers and then graph the results. Have a wonderful day celebrating the genius of Dr. Seuss books!
